Version 1.0 · Effective September 24, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data openhour collects, how it is used, and the choices and rights you have over it. It applies to everyone who uses the Platform, and is written to align with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and other applicable Indian data protection law.
Account information: your name, email address, and profile details you provide, including a photo, biography, tagline, and — for an expert — services, rates, industries and availability.
Booking and activity data: session requests, confirmations, cancellations, messages exchanged through a booking, reviews you write or receive, and event registrations.
Calendar data: if you connect a calendar to check or publish availability, we access only what is necessary to do that — we do not read the content of unrelated calendar events.
Technical and usage data: device and browser information, IP address, and how you interact with the Platform, collected to keep it working and secure.
Analytics and diagnostic data (new this round): which screens and features you use, and error reports when something goes wrong, collected only once you have accepted the Terms of Service (Section 15 there covers this in full) — and, where session recording is enabled, a recording of the flow of a screen with typed text and images hidden. You can turn this off at any time from Settings.
We do not collect payment card numbers, bank account details, or any other payment instrument details, because payment for a session is arranged directly between the person booking and the expert and does not pass through the Platform, as set out in the Terms of Service.
Consent for marketing communications is collected separately from acceptance of these policies, is not enabled by default, and can be withdrawn at any time from your profile settings, without affecting your ability to use the Platform.
With another user, to the extent necessary for a booking or event you're part of — for example, an expert sees the name and details of someone who books them.
With service providers who help operate the Platform, such as hosting, email delivery, and authentication providers (including Google and LinkedIn, where you choose to sign in with them), bound by their own confidentiality and data protection obligations to us.
With PostHog (new this round), our analytics and error-reporting provider, where you have consented under the Terms of Service — limited to the usage events, error reports and, where enabled, screen recordings described in Section 1, stored in the European Union, and never including your name, email address or phone number.
With a community's own administrators, limited to what is necessary for them to run that community — membership status, applications made through it, and reports raised about conduct within it. A community administrator does not receive data about your activity elsewhere on the Platform.
With a law enforcement or regulatory authority, where required by applicable law.
We do not sell your personal data.
We retain account and booking data for as long as your account is active, and for a period after deletion where retention is required for tax, accounting, or legal purposes, or to resolve a dispute. A review you have written is kept without your name attached after account deletion, since removing it entirely would alter another user's rating based on a session that genuinely occurred.
Analytics and error-reporting data is retained by PostHog for a limited period set to match this policy, and is deleted, along with the rest of your data, when your account is deleted.
You may access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data at any time.
To request deletion, write to theteam@openhour.co. We acknowledge every request within 48 hours and complete it within 30 days. This is done by a person reviewing the request directly — there is currently no self-service deletion control in the product, and we would rather state that plainly than describe one that does not exist.
Some records survive a deletion request where we are legally required to keep them, such as for tax purposes or under a legal order, and a review you wrote is retained without your name attached, as described in Section 4.
We use cookies and similar technology necessary for the Platform to function, such as keeping you signed in, and — where you have consented under the Terms of Service — for analytics, error reporting and, where enabled, session recording, to understand how the Platform is used and to fix problems. This is described in full in Section 15 of the Terms of Service, and any non-essential tracking is gated behind that consent, not enabled automatically or for anyone who has not yet accepted the Terms.
The Platform is not directed at, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from, anyone under the age of 18. If we learn that we have collected data from someone under 18, we will delete it.
The Platform is operated in India. Where a service provider we use processes data outside India, we require contractual protections consistent with applicable Indian data protection law.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, alteration, or loss. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
This Privacy Policy is versioned; the version and effective date are shown at the top of this page. We will update the version number when we make a material change.
